Wrigleys : Wrigley Pacific Sustainability Report 2010
Scoresby: our energy stars In early 2010, our Scoresby factory reduced its electricity consumption by an impressive 20 per cent in only six months by implementing a range of energy saving projects, including installing new air compressors and office air conditioners. The temperature of Scoresby’s cooling system was increased by two degrees to 0°C. These activities contributed to the reduction of ozone depleting gasses by 80 per cent. An equipment shutdown procedure was documented with a series of photographs so that it was easy to follow for all Associates. With this formalised process of turning off equipment after use, the Scoresby team were able to ensure that energy was only being used when absolutely necessary. energy savings The Scoresby team recognised that the water that is discharged as part of their trade waste was being excessively cooled. By turning off the cooling system for the waste water, the team recorded significant energy savings and reduced carbon emissions, while still meeting our temperature requirements for trade waste. There were other water and cooling related efficiencies to be found across the site. By removing wet changeovers from the lollipop making process, the need to use hot water in between flavours was eliminated, and manufacture was able to be increased from two to six flavour days. Hot water washdowns in the plant were also reduced by educating our Associates about when they were necessary, and replacing hot water hoses with cold where practical.
